Cecelia's Story of Possibility
“I have come so far. Today, I’m a completely different person.”
Cecelia’s days now have structure and purpose. She begins her mornings grounding in her faith, prepares for work, and spends her day at Unshattered building products with care and precision. Evenings are often filled with quiet reflections, time in the chapel, or volunteering at The Hoving Home. There is rhythm now. Stability. Community. But it wasn’t always that way.
Before recovery, Cecelia describes her life as chaos. She was constantly searching for the next source of pills, moving from job to job because she couldn’t maintain employment. Anxiety and insecurity kept her isolated. She didn’t want to be around people unless she was high. Addiction felt like a never-ending cycle she could not break. She would get sober for a time, only to relapse again.
She says, “It felt like it would never end.”
What makes this season different is that Cecelia is no longer trying to rebuild alone. After completing a year-long recovery program, she knew she needed more than sobriety. She needed a next step that would support both her healing and her professional growth. Unshattered became that bridge.
At Unshattered, Cecelia found more than a job. She found a safe, structured environment where expectations are clear, growth is intentional, and community is part of the culture. She was inspired by the mission behind the products and grateful to step into a workplace designed specifically for women rebuilding their lives.
One moment stands out clearly. The first time she made a keychain.
She recalls, “I remember taking pictures and sending them to my program managers. I thought, I can do this.”
That keychain represented more than a finished product. It was tangible proof that she could learn new skills, follow a process, and create something beautiful from materials that once had a different story. In many ways, the work mirrored her own story. Each bag she makes is a reminder of how brave she is to be on this journey of healing.
Since joining Unshattered, Cecelia’s confidence has grown both personally and professionally. She has learned to advocate for herself, communicate clearly, and show up consistently. She is developing workplace habits that once felt out of reach. Through hands-on training, accountability, and encouragement, she is building not only products, but stability.
She says, “I had to unlearn being in this bubble I was in. It was a protective mechanism. I’ve learned to let my hard exterior soften.”
On harder days, she looks around at the life she is actively building. From being on the streets of San Diego to holding steady employment. From instability to planning for her driver’s license and a car. From fractured relationships to rebuilding trust with her father. These are not small milestones. They are evidence of transformation. When she looks ahead, what once felt impossible now feels attainable: her own place to live. A restored relationship with her granddaughter. Long-term sobriety. Freedom.
Cecelia says recovery is not something anyone can do alone. For her, her foundational faith and a workplace that believes in second chances, teaches professional skills, and creates real economic opportunity is helping her thrive.
Today, Cecelia is proud to be sober. She’s living out her own healing, proof that women in recovery have valuable skills, gifts, and a purpose.
And at Unshattered, this is exactly what possibility looks like.
