Mary's Story of Possibility

Mary
“Don’t go the wrong way. Keep moving forward and doing the right thing, and the possibilities will come.”
When Mary was a teenager, she started drinking alcohol to fit in with her friends at school.
What began as a way to feel accepted quickly spiraled into a deeper struggle especially after the heartbreaking loss of her mother. Grief consumed Mary, and her reliance on alcohol grew, leaving her feeling trapped and hopeless. After decades of brokenness and addiction, she finally hit rock bottom.
Recognizing the need for help, Mary entered a long-term recovery program.
While she was there she was connected with a counselor who played a crucial role in her healing. “My counselor coached me through the hardest times,” Mary shares, highlighting the profound impact of this support on her journey.
Mary’s path to Unshattered was unexpected but life-changingEncouraged by a staff member from her recovery program, she took a chance and joined Unshattered. Walking in the door felt terrifying, it was her first time having a job and it all felt new, daunting and scary. But Mary discovered a nurturing environment that not only helped her heal but also inspired her to grow and become a role model for others. “It made me open-minded and encouraged me to do better in life,” she says. Participating in resources like group coaching and professional development workshops, Mary has grown into a smiling, joyful woman with hope for the future.
Today, Mary is proud of her transformation.
She believes in herself and wants others to know that overcoming addiction is possible. “If I can do this, anybody can do this,” Mary declares. Her dreams have shifted from mere survival to envisioning a happy, fulfilling life—living on a farm and embracing the simple joys of everyday moments. “Just happiness. I want to be happy and live a normal life,” she smiles.
Mary’s story is a testament to the power of hope and resilience.
With the right support and unwavering determination, healing and transformation are within reach. Mary urges others to choose the right path and keep moving forward. “Don’t go the wrong way. Keep doing the right thing, and the possibilities will come,” she advises.
